October Update: Production & Plush Status

Thank you for your support and patience with us as we chip away at all the layout and production for this project. 

All book items will be printed in the United States which will cut down on the delivery time to us. Once layout is complete the digital versions will be sent to backers. At this point it's too early to promise an exact delivery date to you, but we are pushing to get delivery to you as soon as possible.

Kobold Plush 

Over the last month we finalized both the UPC/sales tag and "butt" tag with safety information. It will officially be called "My Little Kobold".   

Kobolds Ate My Baby @ GAMEHOLECON 

The KAMB design team had so much fun running this new version of Kobolds at Gameholecon. They ran 7 sessions for 70 players! 9th Level Games also SOLD OUT of the 2013 Kobolds Ate My Baby in Colour.

Thank you for all the t-shirt suggestions. One thing we heard loud and clear is that you folks want an All Hail King Torg shirt. We'll definitely do that and may also include another option TBD. Those will not go on sale until 2024. 

Plush Sample 

Here is the physical sample and it is just as awesome and wickedly cute as we had hoped! We have named him Beta. 

Production on the plush will be begin shortly. This also requires safety testing which will add a few weeks to the entire process. We'll keep you in the loop. 

Delivery to you Delayed

We were hoping to be able to deliver the digital version this month and get you the physical version by the end of October, but that will not be feasible. At this point we fully expect to be able to send out the final digital version by the end of October as well as some of other digital items. Once we have the book with the printer we'll have a better idea of delivery to you, however we are expecting only 4-6 weeks after we approve our proofs. The goal is to delivery to you before Christmas 2023.

Project Status

  • Kobolds Ate My Baby Orange Book - Written, working on final tweaks and updates. Final playtesting happening at Gencon, final edits expected in late August. Layout in September. 
  • SMORKAS BORG - Fully written, in editing, layout in September.
  • Kobold Plush - 3rd round of design complete, awaiting physical sample
  • Kobolds Ate My Baby Digital Adventure Pack - Fully written, in editing. Layout in September. 
  • Kobolds Ate My Baby Dice Set - Ordered and awaiting delivery 
  • Kobolds Ate My Baby Coloring Book - Layout not started, but 1000 orange Crayola crayons have been purchased!
  • It's Always Orange in Philadelphia Adventure - Won't be written until Orange Book playtests are complete

Kobold Plush 

In our last update we showed you the two sample version of the plush kobold. While many of you loved the longer fur version, we found it much harder to capture John Kovalic's kobold art with that style fur, so we decided on the shorter fur.  We *believe* this is our last round of updates and have gotten it where we want so the next step is getting the physical sample in our hands!!!

We're planning to make some new Kobolds Ate My Baby t-shirts for next year since it's the 25th Anniversary! However, we're having trouble coming up with the perfect idea. Please vote below and/or comment with your ideas. If we pick your idea you get the shirt for free!!!

In all seriousness, we apologize for the delay in getting you a solid update. The fault is totally ours, we are sorry for not keeping you all more in the loop. So, without further adieu - here are some real updates. From now on, you can expect monthly (or more often) updates until we deliver rewards to you. 

Project Status

  • Kobolds Ate My Baby Orange Book - Mostly written, playtesting is ongoing (with great reception at Origins), final edits expected in late August. Layout in September. 
  • SMORKAS BORG - Fully written, in editing (its hysterical by the way)
  • Kobold Plush - 2nd round of design complete, awaiting physical sample
  • Kobolds Ate My Baby Digital Adventure Pack - Fully written, in editing
  • Kobolds Ate My Baby Dice Set - Quoted & designed, awaiting final count to order 
  • Kobolds Ate My Baby Coloring Book - Layout not started, but 1000 orange Crayola crayons have been purchased!
  • It's Always Orange in Philadelphia Adventure - Won't be written until playtests are complete

Once everything goes to the printer, we'll send out digital versions so you can start playing! At this point, we may be closer to the end of October 2023 or even November 2023 for delivery to you. We'll keep you posted. 

Reception to polymorph Rules at Origins Game Fair 


At Origins Game Fair we ran over 20 demo tables throughout the weekend showcasing the new polymorph rules and our new THWACKO Adventure creation system. Additionally, we ran the infamous Kobolds Ate My Baby Midnight Massacre for over 80 players with these new rules. 



Reception to the system was great. Players were asking questions that we either had covered or made sure to make the note to address in the final text.

To date, the favorite item in the game is "200 XP" and there is a real fight going between calling them OUTFITS, JOB, or JORBS* Writers Bug and The Kobold Dude made progress on making fan favorite actions (like Barking) still relevant under the new streamlined rules. Death Checks were had by all. 

At GENCON we'll be running another 4 demo sessions where we'll implement everything learned from Origins. If you want to try out the rules before we go to BETA - this is the time, and Indianapolis is the place!

*BTW, It's not going to be JORBS no matter how often our team chants it.


Kobold Plush Samples 

These are definitely kobolds, but we don't think the design is QUITE there yet. We asked the factory to make a few tweaks to both samples (long fur and short fur) and then send us them physically for review. Once we have them we'll show them off and hopefully that will be the final round of plush edits!!!

Pledge Manager Madness

We want to apologize for the fact that the pledge manager was not originally set up correctly...oops! Kobolds aren't the smartest. Luckily, all the issues we heard about this week are now resolved.

DIGITAL ONLY TIERS 

All add-ons should have been visible to all backers, but originally digital tier backers were not able to see physical add-ons. That has been resolved and you will now be able to add on anything you'd like. 


69 HOUR BACKERS FREE ADVENTURE

This should have originally already been loaded into your carts for free, but was not. This has now been fixed. 

If you go into your Backerkit survey and do not see It's Always Orange in Philadelphia but you believe you should get it since you backed in the first 69 hours (up until 9am EST Friday 1/27/23), please contact us at [email protected] or comment below.
